Electric Vehicle Import Tariff Exemption for 2023 to 2025

In an effort to accelerate the electric vehicle program for road transportation, the Indonesian government has officially exempted imports of electric vehicles until 2025. To qualify, companies need to commit to building Battery Based Electric Vehicles manufacturing facilities in Indonesia. 

The government issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 79/2023 concerning Amendments to Presidential Decree No. 55/2019 concerning Accelerating the Program for Battery Electric Vehicles for Road Transportation. Under the new regulation signed on December 8, 2023, companies that have invested in EV plants, committed to increasing their EV investments, or investing in Indonesia would be eligible for the incentives. 

The import quota is proportional to the production capacity built, and this program is only valid until the end of 2025. This initiative aims to encourage and boost the local content in the electric vehicle industry, contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals, and for investors to bring and provide their EV Ecosystem in Indonesia.
